Why the Internet Should be Censored

The Internet should be censored to protect the users from themselves. There are so many ways the Internet can harm you, and it is too easy to get addicted. One study, for example, found that people often spend four hours a day on their smartphones, checking social media and email. This certainly can be beneficial, but it can also distract you from other things. For example, a student who spends too much time on the Internet may not do well in school. At the same time, we can spend too much time on the Internet at the expense of other things. For example, if you spend too much time on Facebook, you may lose touch with real people. So, it is a good idea to set limits for yourself, and to think

The Internet is a useful tool. It provides access to information and communication with people all over the world. However, there’s a downside: the Internet is a gateway to everything imaginable.  It’s easy to find information on virtually any topic imaginable, and it’s also very easy to find information that isn’t appropriate for children to see. In some cases, the information is illegal. Violent and pornographic images, extreme profanity and hate speech, and even instructions for committing crimes are posted online. The Internet has become a dangerous place, and it should be censored. I used this one the most, as it can be used for pretty much any blog on the internet. What’s your favorite intro? Should the internet be censored? This is a subject of ongoing discussion. And that’s not an easy question to answer, not least because one of the questions is who will do the censoring and how. The global nature and reach of the Internet creates difficulties in monitoring content that have not been encountered in other means of communication and dissemination of information. Some countries are already censoring parts of the internet, blocking websites and shutting down social media like Twitter in times of unrest. Sometimes we feel uncomfortable with a word like censorship, which sounds too much like a denial of our freedoms. However, the Internet can be censored in such a way that it remains a good source of information and a dynamic social space, while protecting those most vulnerable to exploitation.

Pornography is a major market on the Internet. In many places it is perfectly legal, and many people will say that consenting adults should be able to do whatever they want as long as they don’t hurt anyone. The last four words are essential: pornography has always been an exploitative industry, and the Internet has only made it worse. On the one hand, it is about the exploitation of adult men and women who, for various reasons, are forced to participate in pornographic videos. This problem is not unique to the Internet, but some other problems are. One of these is the distribution of amateur pornography. Too often clips of people are downloaded without their knowledge or consent. The two most serious problems are sex trafficking and child pornography. It’s one thing if someone is forced to make pornography because they need money or have a drug problem; but sex trafficking goes all the way to coercion, violence, rape and kidnapping, and victims can be forced to make pornography. Child pornography is a particularly serious problem online and unfortunately paedophiles now have the opportunity to operate online in ways they could never have imagined before. While sex trafficking and child pornography are already illegal, the Internet offers a whole new world of profit and distribution for those who commit these crimes. Is the right of individuals to surf freely on the Internet more important than the rights and protection of children and victims of trafficking?

Just as the internet can be a breeding ground for pedophiles, it is also a place for the spread of hate. A number of websites exist solely to promote hatred of different types of people. In the past, a racist was isolated or had contact only with those close to him. Now a disgruntled person with racist tendencies can go on the internet and stir up pure hate. Future terrorists can also be trained and recruited online. It’s also an operational problem. In the past, an embittered and alienated young man could pass through such a phase more or less unscathed. Today, angry young people take to the Internet and find people ready to pounce on them and convince them to channel their frustration into hate speech and terrorist activities. In this way, local and foreign terrorists can be promoted. Is there anyone in the world who actually benefits from the internet allowing sites to spread racism and hatred towards other types of people? What rights are being protected here?

The final reason why the Internet should be censored relates to intellectual property infringements. Many imagine that people like artists and writers are in favor of a free and open internet, but the truth is that people who make movies, music, books, etc. suffer from the lack of censorship on the internet. Every year, pirates become more adept at circumventing national and international laws and distributing intellectual content illegally. You might think that piracy only hurts big companies like movie studios, but it also hurts individuals. If no one wants to pay for the musicians’ music, how can they support themselves so they can make more music? Many on the other side of the fence argue that information should be free, but they forget that real people take time out of their lives to create that information. For example, writers have the same 24 hours in a day as anyone else, and writing a book takes time; if writers can’t make money with the seven hours a day they spend on a novel, they should manage their time differently and use those seven hours to make money in some other way. Moreover, the work of creative people belongs to them as any other good belongs to man. Again: The right of people to a free and open Internet does not supersede the right of creators to own and distribute their creations.

Censorship is a scary word to many people, but when applied thoughtfully, with restraint and in accordance with community standards, Internet censorship can protect vulnerable populations, including children, from sexual exploitation, reduce hate crimes and terrorism, and better protect intellectual property. Internet freedom is an abstract concept, but it is about real people facing real problems due to the lack of censorship on the Internet. Internet censorship will make the Internet and the world better.

How does internet censorship affect freedom of speech?

The internet is a powerful tool, and with great power comes great responsibility. According to the Pew Research Center, 43% of American adults use the internet, and that number is only going to increase. While the internet does offer great opportunities for the sharing of ideas and information, it can also be very dangerous. In fact, some people think that the internet should be censored. Despite the fact that the internet has been around since the early 90s, we are still figuring out what role it plays in our everyday lives. It’s a free and democratic place where we can express our opinions, conduct research and even find a job. But is the internet also a place where we can be free from censorship? This question has caused quite a stir in recent years. It has been a subject of heated debate and has even led to acts of vandalism, as we saw with the recent attack on the websites of Dyn, Inc., a major provider of domain name system services.
