The life of Bal Gangadhar Tilak was full of struggles and hardships. A child who was born to a poor family of farmers, he could not afford his own education until he was sixteen. Bal Gangadhar Tilak became a revolutionary and leader of the freedom struggle against the British. He was killed in the battle of Mahad in the year 1920. With the freedom struggle of Bal Gangadhar Tilak, freedom was the key to the mind of many people.

His political career

When he taught in India in 1880, the school authorities did not allow him to teach because they were British. Therefore, he quit his job and joined the Indian National Congress to oppose British rules and to criticize the education system that the British controlled in India.

He organized many movements for the withdrawal of the British from India, got the support of Lal Lajpat Rai and Bipin Chandra Pal and with their help he organized many movements and inspired many people to fight against the British and these three people were called the Lal Bal Pal.

He organized many movements, but at one point he failed to get the support of the people and the Indian National Congress. He was therefore imprisoned in 1906 and no support from the Indian National Congress followed. But his thoughts inspired some people, and many began to follow him and try to free him from prison.

Social reforms

For his country, he began to inspire the youth with his inspirational quotes. He also talks about two newspapers that impart knowledge to the youth of our society. He also writes many articles that inspire people.

At that time all people lived separately, to bring them closer together, he started celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi and Shivaji Jayanti. Celebrating these festivals brings people together and makes them equal. He tried his best all his life to fight for the people, but his hard work was never appreciated. He didn’t get the recognition he deserved.

His death

Lokmanya Tilak was very disappointed with the incident that took place in Jallianwala Bagh, his health started deteriorating and during his illness he never stopped inspiring people and organizing many movements, whatever happened to him and it affected his health, he suffered from diabetes and became very weak and Lokmanya Tilak died on the 1st day. August 1920. Many people gathered to catch a last glimpse of their leader.

He was a strong leader who inspired many of his people. Even after Lokmanya Tilak, his legacy will be carried by the people: The Marathi newspaper he founded is still published every week and the Ganesha Chaturthi and Shivaji Jayantiya festivals he instituted are celebrated by the people.
