5 Safe Dishes to Cook on a First Date

While you might have a great story about how you met your boyfriend or girlfriend, you might not want to bring up your cooking talents. Over the years, I have met many people, and one of the best things I have observed about them is how they prepare their food.

Casual dating can be more risky than you think, and it’s important to steer clear of certain foods that are risky for your health. Here are five foods to avoid on a first-date—from the obvious to the obscure—for your safety and theirs.

Choosing a menu for a first date can be tricky: You want to impress, but you don’t want to take so many risks that it becomes a total disaster. Here are five dishes; they are easy to prepare, don’t take much time and look great on the plate. And they are sure to please your companion…..
Homemade pizza

The stigma that pizza is bland and lazy may apply more to your local kebab shop, but homemade pizza shows elegance and effort. No fat drippings and, no matter what others think, the pizza can be eaten with a knife and fork, especially if it’s homemade. The best time to make a pizza? You can make one large portion or two small ones, and don’t forget to add your favorite toppings.

You’ll need:

1/4 active dried yeast1 teaspoon salt3 cups flour 1-1/4 cups warm water1 teaspoon Italian seasoning mix

2 cups grated mozzarella
herbs of choice
tomato paste

Method:

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (hot air oven). In a large bowl, mix the yeast, flour, spices and salt. Gradually add the hot water until you have a soft, elastic dough. Knead for about 5 minutes on a clean, floured surface, then roll to desired shape. Carefully spoon the tomato paste over the pizza crust, leaving plenty of room around the edges for the crust. Sprinkle the mozzarella (and any other cheese you want to use) on top, then arrange the toppings of your choice on top.

Place the pizza in the oven for about 30-45 minutes or until golden brown. Top with a few basil leaves for added presentation. Serve with a glass of your favorite wine.

Spaghetti bolognese

A classic first date dish that can be beautifully presented and comes from one of the most romantic countries in the world. Italy is a country known for its amazing dishes, and with this simple recipe for Bolognese, you can bring the culture and flavors of this country right into your kitchen…..

You’ll need:

1 medium onion, diced
1 tablespoon Italian herbs and spices
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup small mushrooms, chopped
2 cans chopped tomatoes
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 cube beef broth

300 g spaghetti
50 g grated parmesan
basil leaves

Method:

Heat the olive oil in a large pan and add the diced onion, chopped mushrooms and minced meat. When the meat is cooked, gradually add the chopped tomatoes and stir. Add garlic, herbs, salt and beef bouillon cube, stir and simmer. Meanwhile, put the spaghetti in another pan of boiling water. After cooking, drain the water and arrange them on plates. Leave a space in the middle of the spaghetti and add the minced meat in the middle.

Sprinkle with parmesan cheese and garnish with a few basil leaves. We recommend serving with crusty garlic bread!

Spicy Fajitas

If you like appetizers and something a little less casual but delicious, Mexican fajitas are a great way to warm up. You and your partner can assemble fajitas, and you can add lots of sauces and dips to create the illusion of an elaborate presentation. And they are incredibly easy to make. ….

You’ll need:

6 – 8 soft white tortillas
300g chicken breast, diced
2 large red and yellow peppers, diced
1 medium onion, diced
30g fajita seasoning mix (we prefer smoked bacon or roasted tomatoes)

Lettuce, sliced
Grated cheddar cheese
Crème fraîche
Guacamole
Cucumber, sliced
(and any other toppings you wish to add)

Method:

In a large pan, cook the chicken breast, then the chopped onion and pepper. When cooked, add the spice mixture and cook for a few more minutes. Heat the tortillas in the microwave for 30 seconds. Heat the fajita mixture in a bowl over a hot table with a tea light. Place desired toppings on separate plates so guests can choose what goes into their fajitas. Bonus points if you put classic nachos on the menu!

Fried chicken on breadcrumbs

Everyone loves roast meat, and it’s not so bad for you! It is a rather elegant dish full of unique flavors that always looks very dignified on the plate. And it’s easy to do…

You’ll need:

300 g diced chicken breast
380 g chopped vegetables of your choice
350 g medium egg noodles
300 g black bean stir-fry sauce
chopped onions

Method:

Cook the chicken cubes in a wok and add a little salt and pepper. Put the pasta in a pan with boiling water and cook until tender. Add the prepared vegetables to the cooked chicken, then add the soft noodles to the wok. Cook over medium heat until the vegetables are tender, then slowly add the black bean sauce. Let simmer for a few minutes before serving. Sprinkle with chopped green onions and enjoy!

Grilled meat and herbs

If you think about it, grilled meat and vegetables are synonymous with class. Some crunchy veggies, including green beans and broccoli, paired with a juicy grilled chicken breast, and maybe some fresh potatoes….. It is a gourmet dish that gives you the freedom to try different combinations, not to mention that it is nutritionally balanced.

While there are many types of meat and countless ways to prepare it, grilling leaves a strange residue. If you want to spend more money, you can replace the grilled chicken with a juicy steak; red meat and a glass of red wine complement each other perfectly. The vegetables are best boiled, steamed or even baked with some exotic spices. To spice up the dish, it’s a good idea to add a high-carb side dish, such as new potatoes or slices of baked sweet potato. So feel free to experiment with a dish like this and be sure that your date will like it, no matter what you decide.

TIPS: A glass of champagne makes every meal even more elegant.
